What is recorded here
Half-buried in red soil, the round stone leans like a tired sentinel, its shallow dimple catching rainwater or tears. Local tradition claims it eases headaches, inviting desperate hands to press against its cool surface while doubt and hope wrestle inside the chest. Whether divine mercy or human imagination, the stone still holds that boundary between suffering and relief.
Located on the E side of an enclosure (MA030-0051005-), within a burial ground (MA030-051004-) named League Cemetery.
This possible bullaun stone consists of a roughly circular stone slab (diam. c. 0.98m; T c. 0.3m), which is set upright on its narrow edge. It leans against the enclosing scarp of the enclosure, and is partly embedded in the ground so that its exact dimensions are uncertain. A circular depression (diam 0.17m; D 0.008m), with vertical sides and a flat base, is located off-centre on the broad exposed face of the stone.
The function of this stone is unclear; it superficially resembles a bullaun stone, but the form of the circular depression is somewhat unusual. According to local tradition, the stone has curative powers, especially efficacious for headaches or other problems of the head.

Likely dating to the early Christian period, bullaun stones were often used for ritual purposes, such as anointing or as holy water basins, and may have been associated with local saints or pilgrimage traditions. This example may have been part of a wider ecclesiastical or ceremonial landscape linked to the nearby burial ground.
