Twenty paces west of the Sacred Heart church in Kilmainhamwood, a cut sandstone cylinder holds a shallow basin deep enough to catch rain or tears. People may have knelt beside it for centuries, pouring water over ailments or watching it fill under storm skies. The church stands witness now, but the stone remembers older prayers and the quiet patience of being overlooked.

Located c. 15m W of the Roman Catholic church of the Sacred Heart in Kilmainhamwood. This is a sandstone cylinder (dims of top 0.57m x 0.48m; H 0.58m) with a rounded basin (dims 0.36m x 0.33m; max. D 0.23m). The stone has been roughly cut back to a rough cylinder (dims of base 0.36m x 0.23m), and portion of the rim has been damaged. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 1 August, 2014

Likely dating to the early medieval period, the bullaun stone may have been used for ritual purposes, such as the preparation of holy water or as a site for pilgrimages. Such stones are often associated with Christian or pre-Christian sacred traditions.
