Buittle Old Parish Church is associated with St. Buthle, a 6th-century Irish missionary and one of the Seven Holy Founders of the Church in Galloway. The church and its adjacent holy well were sites of pilgrimage and ritual, with the well traditionally believed to have healing properties, particularly for skin ailments and general well-being.
