What is recorded here

This brushed metal commemorative plaque records: Roman iron slag This sample of iron slag is waste from the Roman iron-working industry of Worcester. Workshops and smelting hearths have been excavated across Worcester and they produced iron bars, the raw material for blacksmiths. Slag was a by-product and used for building roads in the town. A great deal of slag was dumped outside the settlement and here it was used to make up the ground in the flood plain. Recorded plaque organisation: University of Worcester, Worcestershire County Council.
This sample of iron slag represents the waste from Roman Worcester's active iron-working industry, highlighting the town’s significance as a center for metal production during the Roman occupation. The widespread use and deposition of slag in construction and land elevation also illustrates Romans' resourcefulness and impact on local infrastructure.
