Brodie Castle, Laundry

Laundry (19th Century) - (20th Century)

What is recorded here

Brodie Castle, Laundry occupied a twenty-metre patch in Dyke and Moy during the nineteenth century, serving the domestic hunger of the castle before modern plumbing arrived. Water, soap and human muscle turned raw cloth into clean cloth within that small footprint. The laundry may have stank of wet wool and wood smoke, but it kept Brodie Castle functioning when convenience was still a chore rather than a habit.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Brodie Castle, Laundry as Laundry (19th Century) - (20th Century). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
Brodie Castle, Laundry was part of the Brodie Castle estate, held by the Brodie family, a prominent Scottish clan with historical ties to the region since the 13th century. The laundry, built in the 19th century, reflects the domestic and economic infrastructure of a large Highland estate during the period of clan chief authority and estate management.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
