Brodick Castle, Bridge Over Cnocan Burn spans a narrow burn in North Ayrshire, built during the 19th century to carry roads past the castle grounds. Its stones still cross the water, unchanged in purpose, even if the carriage roads have become footpaths and the castle chambers have changed owners several times. The bridge does not announce itself. It simply continues the road, which is the oldest and most honest function a stone arc can perform.
