The Breaksea Lightship was a lightvessel stationed off the coast of Wales to warn ships of the Breaksea Sands, a hazardous reef. It was lost in 1887 after being driven ashore during a severe storm, resulting in the loss of all 12 crew members; its loss highlighted the dangers of coastal navigation and led to improvements in maritime safety measures.
