Branwell Brontë multicoloured plaque

This multicoloured commemorative plaque records: From June 1838 until May 1839, Branwell Brontë worked as a portrait painter at his studio and lodgings on Fountain Street (the street facing you). He continued writing with his sister Charlotte, Tales of Angria, inspired by growing Chartist unrest and the flourishing cultural life of a growing industrial town. Branwell Brontë was an English painter and writer, brother to the renowned authors Charlotte, Emily, and Anne Brontë. Though he struggled with addiction and did not achieve the literary success of his sisters, Branwell is remembered for his contributions to the shared world of fiction known as Angria, which he created with Charlotte.
