Branwell Brontë and Betty Hardacre brown plaque

This brown commemorative plaque records: When the Brontë family lived in Haworth this was the druggists house and shop. The pharmacist at the time was Betty Hardacre & it was she who dispensed laudenum an opium derived drug to Bramwell Brontë in the years leading up to his death in September 1848, aged 31.

Branwell Brontë was the brother of the literary sisters Charlotte, Emily, and Anne Brontë, known for their significant contributions to English literature; Betty Hardacre was the pharmacist who supplied Branwell with laudanum, an opium-derived drug, contributing to his early death at age 31.
