This blue commemorative plaque records: A house named "Templeton", since demolished, stood here, the wartime home of Cdr. Bradwell Turner DSO who, in 1940, led a boarding party from HMS Cossack onto the German prison ship Altmark, and rescued 299 British merchant seamen. Cdr. Bradwell Turner DSO was a Royal Navy officer renowned for leading the daring boarding operation on the German ship Altmark in 1940, successfully freeing 299 British prisoners, which became a significant morale booster during World War II.
