Boulder-burial in Ballybackagh, County Galway, is a stone chamber built to hold the dead, yet no human body remains visible to judge whether the builders raged, loved or simply obeyed custom. The stones still lock around that absent flesh, forcing imagination to fill the dark. Perhaps a mother stood outside during the storm, perhaps a chief gave the order, perhaps fear itself shaped the chamber. The county keeps the chamber while memory retreats inside it.
