What is recorded here

Boreland stands as a medieval tower house in Dumfries and Galloway, yet local memory places its roots beside the Glazert Water where monks may have tended medicinal herbs for weary travellers. The hilltop castle built by Godfrey de Ross vanished beneath ploughshares and grass, leaving only the Cuckoo Slide ditch to mark where stone once rose. What remains is a landscape shaped by forgetting, where the boundary between fact and tradition blunts into soil and shadow.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Boreland as Tower House (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
