Blairquhan Castle is a nineteenth-century mansion in South Ayrshire built over the buried heart of an older Kennedy stronghold. William Burn drew almost every wall new, yet the kitchen courtyard still bumps against the plan like a remembered shape, perhaps preserving the footprint of the lost tower house. The building stands alone above the Water of Girvan, keeping the old name alive after decades of fire, debt and reinvention.
