Blair Castle is a white-walled Highland palace near Pitlochry, built from a 1269 tower into a grand estate for the Dukes and Earls of Atholl. It has watched clan wars, Jacobite risings and royal visits, while the Atholl Highlanders still march as Europe’s only legal private army. The castle is also recorded in the national historic environment register as a sundial, a strange official label for a place so much larger than a dial.

It is important as a historic seat of the Dukes of Atholl and as one of the largest and most complete castles in Scotland.
