Blaenllynfi Castle

Castle

What is recorded here

Blaenllynfi Castle is a ruined stone castle near Bwlch in Powys, built around 1208 when King John took land from William de Braose after their bitter clash. It changed hands repeatedly, suffered siege by Llywelyn ap Gruffudd and never recovered fully, becoming the kind of broken Marcher scar that still belongs to nobody and everyone.
The National Monuments Record of Wales records Blaenllynfi Castle as Castle from the Medieval period. The saved point comes from the official national record. Inclusion does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
Blaenllynfi Castle was built during the Medieval period, likely by a local Welsh lord or as part of the Norman expansion into Wales. It is remembered as an example of early medieval fortification in the region, reflecting the strategic importance of the area during conflicts between Welsh and English forces.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
