Blackhill, 'highlandman's Well'

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Blackhill, 'highlandman's Well' as Holy Well (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

This holy well is associated with local traditions of healing and pilgrimage, typical of many Scottish holy wells linked to saintly or pre-Christian heritage. No specific saint is recorded, but such wells were often believed to offer cures for ailments through the use of water, sometimes combined with rituals such as walking circuits or making offerings.
