Mains of Blackhall still carries the name Castle though no tower stands in the field. That is the kind of mistake places make when they remember pride instead of shape. A house may have worn a false name for generations, or a castle may have left only a shadow in the speech of the county. Either way, the land kept the bigger story and dropped the smaller truth.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Blackhall Castle, Mains of Blackhall as Farmstead (period Unassigned). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
