Carryduff holds a queen’s fort where two ridges still break the grass like the ribs of a forgotten room. It is no longer certain whether the name points to a ruling woman, a lost dynasty or a joke repeated until it became history. What remains is the shape of authority made visible: a boundary drawn around life itself.
