Loughbrickland Fort in Coolnacran is a bivalate rath, meaning two concentric rings of earth and stone instead of one. It belongs to the early Christian period and still carries scheduled protection in County Down. The double defence suggests a household proud enough to build twice, perhaps guarding a doorway, a treasury or a bloodline. People may have lived inside the inner ring while workrooms and byres filled the outer band, creating a small world complete enough to resist invasion or pride.
