Biggar - Castledykes is a Roman road in South Lanarkshire, Scotland, preserved in the national record with a point accurate to ten metres. The name Castledykes suggests something built or cut rather than merely walked, perhaps a boundary, a drain or a military line stretched across living land. Roman roads were not background; they were direction, speed and control. Whatever that direction served, it forced the landscape to answer.
