Benefield Castle

Built in the 12th century, Benefield Castle was a Norman motte-and-bailey fortress established to consolidate control over the surrounding area following the Norman Conquest. It is remembered as an example of early medieval military architecture and as evidence of the strategic importance of the region during the 11th and 12th centuries.
