Linked to Saint Bellid or Bellie, a local early Christian saint venerated in parts of northern Scotland, the site is traditionally associated with healing rituals and the blessing of livestock. Little specific folklore remains, but such churches often served as focal points for seasonal festivals and local pilgrimages.
