What is recorded here

Belgard Road opened in Dublin in 1981, a straightforward civic gift named through the usual county council ceremony. Barry Desmond, chairman then, likely stood beside chief engineer B. Murphy while officials cut a ribbon or pressed a button, giving the street its formal birth. The road itself may have arrived late, paved and lamp-lit after years of debate, but its name entered the city that day like a small medal struck for ordinary use.
BELGARD ROAD OPENED BY MR BARRY DSMOND, T.D. M.C.C. CHAIRMAN DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL 12TH MARCH 1981 CHIEF ENGINEER MR. B. MURPHY B.E., G. ENG., F.I.E.I.
