This pit tub was erected in 1984 to mark the site of Bedlington 'D' Doctor Pit The Colliery, which was sunk 1854 employed 1,200 men at its peak and produced 399,934 Tonnes yearly. The Colliery closed in 1968 and the area was reclaimed by Northumberland C
