Beaumont Cote Manor stands in Lancaster as a castle on public maps, yet its roots may reach back to a Furness Abbey sheepcote. The east wing contains huge kitchen rooms, a walnut staircase, and a thick west wall with buried iron hinge pins that suggest an earlier outside door facing the abbey. The house grew from humble monastic origins into an imposing manor, preserving old crucks, re-used beams, and a dark grand staircase lit only through the south porch.
