Bearhaven Copper Mines occupied a south-facing slope above Allihies, where a tall stone chimney and ruined dwellings marked the harsh work of extracting copper. The site held a Cornish Colony, a powder magazine and mining houses, suggesting a settled community that lived with the danger of explosives and the labour of deep shafts. Its broken walls still outline the shape of that intense, temporary town.
