One bawn, one thatched house and cabins stood at Damerstown in Desert parish when the Down Survey measured Kilkenny in 1655-6. Lord Mount Garrett owned the place, yet the bawn has no visible mark now. It may still lie under grass, road or garden, waiting for someone to notice the shape of the land.

Built by or held by Lord Mount G in the mid-17th century, the Bawn in Damerstown West is remembered as part of the recorded estate holdings in County Down during the post-Cromwellian land settlement. Its mention in the Down Survey terrier of 1655–56 provides a rare historical reference to early land use and ownership in the area.
