Corraneary holds the vanished bawn of Hansborough, built by John Hamilton in 1613 after inheriting Killycloghan from John Raleston. Hamilton raised a castle, bawn and nearby enclosure, creating a fortified household where Cavan fields still hide the foundation. The exact spot has slipped from modern sight, but the names preserve the shape of a house that once commanded the land.

The estate of Killycloghan was granted initially to John Raleston but it passed to John Hamilton in 1613, who built a castle and bawn and a nearby enclosure. It was also known as 'Hansborough'. Davies (1948a, 107-8, ft. 259) places it in Corraneary townland but the Down Survey parish map (1656-8) of Kilbride shows a large castle and bawn at Kilbride. Its location is not known, but it may have been close to the church (CV023-026001-).
