The Battle of the River Idle was fought in 1643 during the English Civil War between Royalist forces under Prince Rupert and Parliamentarian troops led by Lord Fairfax. The Royalists won a decisive victory, which helped secure the north of England for the Crown and delayed Parliamentarian advances in the region.
