Robert Bruce defeated the Clan MacDougall, led by John MacDougall of Lorn, at the Battle of the Pass of Brander in 1308. The victory weakened Scottish opposition to Bruce's claim to the throne, strengthening his position during the Wars of Scottish Independence.
