The Battle of Stamford Bridge was fought between the English army led by King Harold Godwinson and the Norwegian forces under King Harald Hardrada on September 25, 1066. The English won a decisive victory, halting Norse expansion in England, but at great cost, as King Harold was later killed at the Battle of Hastings.
