The Battle of Sedgemoor in 1685 was fought between the forces of the deposed King James II and the Monmouth Rebellion led by James Scott, Duke of Monmouth. Monmouth’s army was defeated near Bridgwater, ending his attempt to seize the throne; the battle marked a significant failure for the rebellion and reinforced James II’s hold on the crown.
