Fought in 1488 between the forces of King James III of Scotland and a coalition of nobles led by the Earl of Angus, the Battle of Sauchieburn resulted in James III's death and the accession of his son, James IV, to the throne. The battle marked a turning point in Scottish history, ending absolute royal authority and shifting power toward the nobility.
