Roundway Down in Wiltshire saw a significant engagement in 1643 during the English Civil War between Royalist forces under Prince Rupert and Parliamentarian troops. The Royalists won a decisive victory, which strengthened their control over southwest England but highlighted the vulnerability of their supply lines.
