On 23 September 1993, five Provisional IRA trucks opened fire on three British helicopters lifting off from Crossmaglen, striking two machines before the crews escaped. The South Armagh Brigade lost three guns and an assault rifle in the chaotic exchange along the east lanes. This was not a isolated event but the latest chapter in a long campaign where unarmed helicopters became vulnerable targets across County Armagh. The wacke bedrock beneath the road has absorbed decades of such violence, waiting for humans to remember the danger hidden in ordinary sky.
Battle of Newry Road is a battle in County Armagh, Ireland.
