The Battle of Newburn Ford in 1640 was fought between Scottish Covenanters and English Royalist forces during the lead-up to the English Civil War. The Scots won a decisive victory, advancing into England and forcing King Charles I to negotiate, which contributed to the outbreak of civil conflict.
