Battle of Meretun is a major battle site with a checked map point.
The Battle of Meretun, fought in Ribble Valley around 945 AD, saw the forces of Edmund, King of East Anglia, clash with an alliance of Mercians and Northumbrians. Edmund was killed in the battle, which marked the end of East Anglian independence and shifted regional power dynamics in northern England.
