Battle of Marston Moor 1644

The Battle of Marston Moor was fought on 2 July 1644, during the Wars of the Three Kingdoms of 1639–1653. The combined forces of the English Parliamentarians under Lord Fairfax and the Earl of Manchester and the Scottish Covenanters under the Earl of Leven defeated the Royalists commanded by Prince Rupert of the Rhine and the Marquess of Newcastle.

The Battle of Marston Moor was fought on 2 July 1644 between the Royalist forces of King Charles I, led by Lord Goring and the Marquess of Newcastle, and the combined Parliamentarian and Scottish Covenanter armies under Lord Fairfax, the Earl of Manchester, and Alexander Leslie. The Parliamentarians and Scots won a decisive victory, which significantly weakened Royalist control in the north of England and marked a turning point in the English Civil War.
