Battle of Blore Heath 1459

The Battle of Blore Heath took place during the English Wars of the Roses on 23 September 1459, at Blore Heath, Staffordshire. Blore Heath is a sparsely populated area of farmland two miles east of the town of Market Drayton in Shropshire, and close to the village of Loggerheads, Staffordshire.

The Battle of Blore Heath was fought on 23 September 1459 between the Yorkist forces led by Sir Ralph Neville, 1st Earl of Westmorland, and a larger Lancastrian army under Lord Grey of Ruthin and Lord Hungerford, during the Wars of the Roses. The Yorkists were defeated and forced to retreat, which weakened their position in the north and contributed to the political instability that led to the flight of Richard, Duke of York, to Ireland later that year.
