What is recorded here
One barrow still stands in Talach, County Mayo, though a neighbouring tumulus fell in 1926 after guarding a hidden cist for centuries. The surviving mound sits in good pasture, small enough to be overlooked yet old enough to have watched fields, herds and memories change around it. Its name is absent from most conversations, but the shape of the land still keeps the claim that someone was once worth remembering.
Situated in good pasture. A tumulus (JRSAI 1935, 82) was destroyed c. 1926. It had covered a cist (MA100-095----).
The above description has been derived from D. Lavelle (compiler), An Archaeological Survey of Ballinrobe and District including Lough Mask and Lough Carra. Lough Mask and Lough Carra Tourist Development Association (1994), No. 36.

A Neolithic burial cairn, 3rd millennium BCE. Its significance lies in the presence of a stone cist, indicating early funerary practices in the region.
This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
