Barrow

In low-lying level wet pasture. Ringfort (TS057-002----) visible c. 185m to the NW and an enclosure (TS057-003002-) visible c. 125m to the SE. Central roughly circular slightly raised area (diam. 12m) enclosed by an earthen scarp (Wth 4m; ext. H 0.25m) with a level circular area (Wth 4m) around its base. At the external edge of the level area is a narrow earthen bank (int. H 0.4m; ext. H 1.3m; Wth at top 0.4m; overall Wth 3.8m) with a distinct inner lip (Wth 2m; int. H 0.2m) and an external flat-bottomed water-logged fosse (Wth 4m; D 0.6m). There is no distinct entrance feature. A NE-SW orientated relic field drain links to the fosse at NW and an E-W orientated relic field drain links to the fosse at ESE. The interior is dry and clear of overgrowth. Stepped barrow, likely dating to the Early Bronze Age. Its construction reflects ritual burial practices and social organisation in early Irish communities.
