Barrow, ring-barrow

What is recorded here

In level pasture. Circular area (diam. c. 13m) enclosed by shallow fosse with outer almost levelled earthen bank. Two possible ringbarrows (CO006-02801- and 02802-) to N and NE respectively. Probably one of three 'tumuli' recorded by Bowman (1934, 649) in this townland. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
A ring-barrow, likely dating to the Early Bronze Age, associated with a burial tradition of circular earthen mounds. Its location among two other possible ring-barrow monuments suggests a significant funerary landscape in the region.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
