Barrow

In pasture, 55m E of townland boundary with Baggotstown East. A possible ditch-barrow (LI040-190----) lies 55m to the SE and an enclosure (LI040-240----) lies 120m to the SE. Identified as the circular cropmark of a possible ditch-barrow by the Bruff aerial photographic survey in 1986 (No. 240; AP 5/0272). Faint trace of cropmark (diam. c. 6m) visible on OSi orthophoto taken 2005-2012 and Digital Globe orthoimage taken 2011-13. Clearly visible on Google Earth orthoimage taken 25/03/2017. Ditch barrow, likely dating to the Early Bronze Age. Its presence suggests a tradition of burial and ritual activity in the Knockainy West area during the Bronze Age.
