Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Barra, Eoligarry, Cille-bharra as Cross (early Medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

This site is associated with Saint Barra, a 6th-century Irish monk and missionary who is traditionally credited with founding a monastery on the Isle of Barra in the Outer Hebrides. Saint Barra was known for his healing abilities, and holy wells linked to him were often visited for cures related to skin diseases and general ailments.
