Barra Parish Church stands in Castlebay, a nineteenth-century building on the western edge of Scotland. It is the kind of place where wind enters through every crack and prayer competes with the sound of the sea. People may have knelt there during storms, asking for nothing more than the return of a boat. The church still belongs to Barra, unchanged in its purpose even when the island disappears into fog.
