Baltersan Castle is a ruined L-plan tower house begun in 1584 for John Kennedy of Pennyglen and Margaret Cathcart near Maybole, South Ayrshire. It replaced an earlier home where Egidia Blair died in 1530, then stood through Kennedy branches until the last childless John Kennedy died in London in 1721. Now empty and listed as at risk, it still rises beside the land once praised for gardens, orchards and woods, waiting for someone to remember why it was built.
