Balnagown Castle is a 19th-century country house in the Highland that may still contain a late medieval tower, giving the grand mansion a much older skeleton. John Adam drew ambitious plans for Captain Ross in 1762, including separate pavilions for kitchens and roof rooms for guests who did not require ceremony. The house absorbed centuries of Ross family alterations, garden walls, and building payments before later architects added their own layers.
