Balmanno Castle is a moated tower house built for George Auchinleck between 1570 and 1580, still standing in Dron with its water-filled moat. Sir Robert Lorimer transformed it in 1915 into a dazzling summer residence for William Millar, adding courtyard wings and furnishing every room with obsessive care. The Bruce family has lived there since the 1950s, carrying the house through another century of change.
