Balmanno Castle, 'joug Tree' still stands in Perth and Kinross, a post Medieval pillory beneath an unassigned tree. People may have tied offenders to that wood while neighbours watched, turning punishment into a local spectacle. The castle name suggests power, but the tree and post exposed everyone to public judgement.
