Balhousie Castle rose from a 1631 foundation into a grand Scottish Baronial mansion before becoming the Black Watch regimental headquarters. The castle now displays regimental history and preserves the memory of soldiers who served from 1739 onward. Its walls have also witnessed artistic imagination, as John Everett Millais used the ruin for a reference photograph in the 1850s. The building is both a military archive and a living stage for human stories.
